What is Activated Charcoal?

Whether you’re scrolling through your Instagram feed or cruising the ‘facial’ aisle at your local store, Activated Charcoal is showing it's name almost everywhere you look. From food and smoothies to soaps and skincare, we are asking ourselves the same thing:

What is Activated Charcoal?

Because it is most certainly not the burnt, ash, black coals you BBQ with!

In short, Activated Charcoal is a powder made from carbon-rich materials (like wood, peat, coconut shells) that are wildly absorbent. After these materials are placed under high temperatures, they continue to increase in surface area that only adds to it’s absorbent characteristics.

The magic begins when it begins absorbing toxins.

There have been cases where Activated Charcoal has helped clean out toxins in the body or the pores on your face by absorbing all the bad stuff (it’s got a lot of surface area). There are also some toothpastes containing charcoal which leaves your mouth feeling extra clean.

Every body is different and we are surely no doctors here, we just thought this was too cool not to share. In our experience, Activated Charcoal has helped with oily skin and teenagers with acne.

That’s why we designed the Charcoal Face Bar and call it the Ugly Soap, Beautiful Face Bar. Try it out, if you dare! Shop Charcoal Face Bar here.
